Cook Forest Announces Upcoming Programming

COOKSBURG, Pa. (EYT) — Upcoming programming has been announced by the Friends of Cook Forest State Park.

Saturday, April 20, at 10:00 a.m. – ‘Litter Pick Up’

Join Friends of Cook Forest to pick up litter along the park’s designated portion of Forest Road.

Attendees will meet at the Log Cabin Environmental Learning Classroom to give out supplies before moving to the assigned portions of the road.

If attendance allows, participants could also clean up other roadways in the park.

Tuesday, April 23, at 6:00 p.m. – ‘Evening Walk with Friends’

Hike a loop starting at the entrance to Ridge Camp on Route 36. Walk through portions of old growth forest and discuss characteristics and ways to recognize it.

The length of the walk will depend on the weather and the wishes of the attendees. People- and pet-friendly leashed dogs are welcome.

Friday, April 26, at 1:00 p.m. – ‘Fire Tower/Seneca Point Historical Tour’

Bring your binoculars and meet at the Fire Tower Parking Lot for a historical interpretive tour of the Fire Tower and Seneca Point by DCNR Conservation Volunteer, Greg Burns.

Learn about local logging history, observe Indian signs, and take a breathtaking view from the top of the Fire Tower.

Saturday, May 4, at 10:00 a.m. – ‘Bridge Clean Up’

Walk various trails in the park to clean old leaves and pine needles from the trail bridges to extend their lives.

Attendees will concentrate on the Tom’s Run Valley, but could hit other trails if possible.

Meet at the Log Cabin Environmental Learning Classroom where trails will be assigned and supplies will be distributed. Attendees should try to bring stiff brooms or light shovels.

Saturday, May 4, at 1:00 p.m. – ‘In-Line Spinner Class’

Meet at the Park Office Conference Room to learn how to make in-line spinners for fishing. The program is conducted by Bill McClintock, a camp host and in-line spinner enthusiast.

Participants will make their own spinners with all materials provided.

Class is free but registration is required. To register, contact the Park Office at cookforestsp@pa.gov or 814-744-8407.

This event has a 15-person limit.

Children must be with participating adults.

All programs are expected to last approximately two hours.
