CUP Track and Women’s Golf Compete Over the Weekend

INDIANA, Pa. – The Clarion University track & field team took part in the PSAC West Challenge Saturday afternoon at George P. Miller Stadium, competing against a number of other PSAC teams.

The Blue and Gold will return to action on April 15th when they head to Galloway, N.J., for the Osprey Open.

Perhaps the biggest highlight of the day came from a field event, where Abby Gluvna took first overall in the javelin with a final distance of 38.45 meters, the lone first overall finish for Clarion on the afternoon. Krista Mosi took fourth overall with a mark of 34.99, while Lexis Twentier took seventh at 32.09. Lindsay Emigh, Carri Pakozdi, and Kylee Deal rounded things out at 13th, 15th, and 16th.

The Blue and Gold still enjoyed a number of impressive performances, however. Jess Shomo and Amanda Batey took sixth and seventh overall in the 100-meter dash to start the day, finishing with final marks of 12.53 and 12.75, respectively. Also competing was Alexis Lopez (15) and Bailey Ayme’ (16). Batey also took ninth overall in the 200 with a final time of 26.80, while Courtney Corban and Emily Young finished 11th and 19th overall.

Corban kept the train rolling in the 400, snagging second overall with an even mark of 1:00.00. McKayla Hoover and Emily Young ended up closely behind her in 11th and 16th, respectively. Danielle Tarr took home fifth (2:24.92) and Letizia Collini seventh (2:25.19) in the 800, while Rikki Brumbaugh, Morgan Manglaviti, Breanna Leidy, and Rebecca Dudek combined to take home four of the final five spots.

Megan Schwerzler added a 10th overall finish in the 3000-meter run, crossing the finish line in 11:36.99, while Tatiana Cloud took third in the 400 hurdles with 1:05.72. Nicole Young took seventh with a time of 1:08.41. Clarion’s 4X400 relay team would finish in third place to finish out the track portion of the afternoon for CU.

In the field, Katie Brest earned a PSAC qualification in shot put after her mark of 11.73 meters secured her a seventh place finish. Kari Steuer took third with 12.98 meters. Krista Mosi (11), Deal (16), and Pakozdi (17) also threw.

Lauryn Greggs finished tied for 7th in the high jump at 1.43 meters, while Shomo took seventh in long jump. Danielle Gettemy, Jordan Collins, Kelsey Johnson, and Pakozdi also competed. Gettemy also took home an 8th-place mark in the triple jump with 9.37 meters, while Summer Murray took ninth in the discus. Brest managed a fourth place mark in the hammer throw at 38.98 meters.

WOMEN’S GOLF SIXTH AT CMU Spring Shootput

APOLLO, Pa. – The Clarion women’s golf team wrapped competition at the Carnegie Mellon Spring Shootout on Sunday, taking sixth overall in the event after two rounds of play. The Golden Eagles will be back in action on April 22 at the Mercyhurst Spring Invitational.

Christan Bowshier had the best score among her teammates in the second round at the Links at Spring Church, carding a round of 91 that was a nine-stroke improvement over her first day score. Elisabeth Papa finished with the best score over the course of two days with a round of 93 on Sunday, giving her a two-day score of 184 compared to Bowshier’s 191. Kyla Hoag sliced nine strokes off her performance from Saturday, carding a round of 99 on Sunday, and Clancy Fyock shot a 109 on Sunday for a two-day score of 223.
