Curve Finishes off Sweep of Binghamton

BINGHMATON, N.Y. – The Altoona Curve completed a three-game sweep of the Binghamton Mets with a 9-6 win on Thursday night at NYSEG Stadium.

The Curve (40-31) have won five straight games overall and are now a season-best nine games over .500, one game behind the division-leading Akron RubberDucks. The B-Mets (26-42) have lost nine of their last ten and six straight overall.

After a run in the first by the B-Mets, the Curve tied it up when Kevin Newman scored on a wild pitch by Josh Zeid (1-2) in the third inning.

Stetson Allie dropped an RBI single into left field to plate Jose Osuna and give the Curve a 2-1 lead in the fourth. Barrett Barnes followed with a run scoring groundout and extended the lead to 4-1 with his first professional hit to cap the three-run frame.

Jose Osuna added a run with an RBI single in the fifth, but Binghamton cut the gap to 5-4 with three runs in the bottom of the inning.

Erich Weiss scored Newman on a sacrifice fly in the sixth, and Newman added two runs on a single in the seventh. Jin-De Jhang drove aingle in the eighht ot push the Curve lead to 9-4 and cap a stretch of Altoona runs scored in six straight innings.

Dickson (Win, 6-3) allowed four runs on seven hits over six innings. Miguel Rosario struck out the side in order in the seventh and finished his night with four strikeouts in two innings.

Jared Lakind allowed two runs in the ninth, snapping his single-season franchise-record scoreless streak at 25.1 innings.

The Curve open a three-game series against the Bowie Baysox on Friday night at Prince George’s Stadium. Lefty Brandon Waddell (4-2, 5.22) will be on the mound for the Curve, opposed by Bowie lefty Jayson Aquino (3-6, 3.66). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
