Curve, Portland Split Doubleheader

PORTLAND, Maine – The Altoona Curve split a pair of games against the Portland Sea Dogs on Thursday night at Hadlock Field. Altoona picked up a 2-1 win to open the night with the completion of Tuesday’s rain-suspended game, but dropped the second game of the night, 2-1.

Altoona (68-55) combined to go 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position in the two games against Portland (47-75).

Game One (Resumed from 8/16)

Barrett Barnes hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning that supplied all of the runs the Curve needed in a 2-1 win over the Sea Dogs.

The blast by Barnes was one of only three hits for the Curve in the game, which was suspended due to rain in the bottom of the fourth inning on Tuesday night. It was the fourth homer in six games for Barnes.

Miguel Rosario (Win, 2-1) worked three scoreless, hitless innings out of the bullpen for the Curve.

Portland put runners on first and third with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but Montana DuRapau (Save, 22) worked a double play from Jake Romanski to finish the game.

Tyler Eppler allowed one run on two hits over three innings before being forced out by the rain.

Game Two

Portland rallied in the sixth to stun the Curve, 2-1, in the second game of the night.

With the Curve ahead 1-0 heading to the sixth, Ryan Court hit a two-run single against Cody Dickson (Loss, 10-5) to put Portland in front.

Kevin McAvoy (Win, 8-7) worked a 1-2-3 seventh to finish out his second complete game of the season. He sat down the final eight Curve hitters in order, including four of his five strikeouts in the game.

Dickson did not allow a hit until the fourth inning and only allowed two hits until Sea Dogs came through with four straight against him in the sixth.

Stetson Allie brought in the only Curve run of the game with an RBI double in the second, scoring Anderson Feliz from first.

The Curve head to Manchester, N.H. to open a three-game series against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Friday night. Lefty Brandon Waddell (7-7, 4.00) will be on the mound for Altoona, opposed by New Hampshire lefty Shane Dawson (8-4, 3.99). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
