D9Sports.com: High School Basketball Season Tips Off Today

The 2014-15 District 9 basketball season gets started with a bang Friday night as 52 of the district’s 70 teams — 27 of 35 girls and 25 of 35 boys teams — play this weekend. Check the full schedule below.

Our team schedule pages are here for the boys and girls.

d9sports_logoDistrict teams are involved in 11 boys’ tournaments and 16 girls’ tournaments in all with a handful of non-tournament games scheduled for Friday night.

One team, the Punxsutawney Chucks, have the rare distinction of playing a season-opening doubleheader at the Marion Center Tournament, which really isn’t a tournament since only three teams make up the field. The defending Class AAA champion Chucks get to play after breakfast when they tip it off first against West Shamokin at 10 a.m. and then meet host Marion Center at 3 p.m.

Forest Area, the newly formed basketball co-op between East and West Forest schools, debuts by hosting tip-off tournaments for both the boys and girls. Forest Area’s home court will bounce between both East and West gymnasiums — check your local listings — with this weekend’s tournaments all set for East Forest in Marienville.
