David “George” Clawson

Member_145697 David “George” Clawson, Jr., 70, of Clawson Lane, Emlenton, Richland Twp., Clarion County, and long time resident of St. Petersburg, passed away Friday morning, April 17, 2015 at the Clawson home following an extended respiratory illness.

During his last week of life, he was surrounded and cared for by his wife and children. Many family members and friends were good to visit during the last few weeks to keep his spirits lifted. The family wants to thank everyone who has kept George and the family in their thoughts, prayers and for the visits.

George is survived by his wife, Audrey “Maxine” Slaugenhoup Clawson, whom he married on June 10, 1966 in Parker; their three children, Tabatha Kay (Clawson) Wetzel and her husband, Denny, of St. Petersburg, Jamie Lynn Clawson and his wife, Tracy Ann (Toy), of Clawson Lane, Emlenton and Terra Paulette (Clawson) Rankin and her husband, Don, of Clawson Lane, Emlenton, and a niece considered to be an additional daughter, Tori Lee Williams and her husband, Ryan, of Franklin.

George was born on February 14, 1945 in West Monterey, Clarion County, the son of Twila Courson Cope Clawson.

His many interests included working with wood, fascination of train displays, playing board games and cards with the grandchildren. Occasionally he would take his work horse “Bill” out for a ride or you could find him riding his golf cart.

In addition to his three children, he is survived by seven grandchildren, Corey James Clawson and his wife, Gina, Codey John Clawson and his wife, Lindsey, Nicole Kathleen Wetzel, Abby Kaylene Wetzel, Gabrielle Pauline Rankin, Sydney Dawn Rankin and Emily Kristine Wetzel; two great grandchildren, Ty David Clawson and Seth Ryan Clawson all of St. Petersburg.

George is survived by a sister, Connie Lou Clawson of Austintown, Ohio, many nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Faye Gilbert, Adda Mae Kahle, Virginia Cratty, Margaret Goland and Elnora “Toot” Texter and his brothers, Thomas Cope and Ira Cope.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 802 Grove St., St. Petersburg, from 1 – 8 p.m. Monday. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Petersburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dan Myers, pastor of St. Petersburg United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in the St. Petersburg Cemetery.
