David V. Burdge

David V. Burdge, 74, of Brookville, PA, died Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at his home in Brookville.

Born May 23, 1944, in Bridgeport, CT, he was the son of the late George and Patricia Neff Burdge.

David attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania as a history major.

He married Carol S. Gerrie; she preceded him in death on Dec.17, 2014.

David was a member of the Brookville First Church of God, served as a school board director in the 1980’s, and was a past president of both the Millcreek and national chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF). He enjoyed the outdoors and hunting; he even completed a World Slam. [A slam is considered one of the biggest feats in turkey hunting. A hunter must harvest each species or subspecies of wild turkey listed under one of the six recognized slams in turkey hunting to complete a slam. (Eastern, Rio Grande, Florida, Merriam’s, Gould’s and Ocellated)]. He also won the Roger M. Latham Sportsman’s Service Award. This award recognizes outstanding contributions by chapter volunteers who give their personal time, energy and money to conservation and management of the American wild turkey. Only non-professionals making significant contributions to the betterment of the wild turkey are eligible.

He worked for many years as the manager of Brookville Glove. He also worked at the Brookville Hospital in the accounting department.

David is survived by a three sons, David V. (Launie) Burdge Jr. of Washington, Michael W. (Amy) Burdge of Brookville, and Darol G. (Jessica) Burdge of San Antonio, TX.; four daughters, Cheri B. (Mark) Spiers of Ridgway, PA., Mariya D.(Jim) Cole of Brookville, Patricia N. Burdge of Brookville, Carolan C. (Justin) Bailey of Brookville; a brother; Samuel Burdge; two sisters, Joyce Gilbert and Jennifer Pahl; fourteen grandchildren, Hannah, Elizabeth, Ryan, Stewart, Emily, Zach, Hayden, Kiersten, Cameron, Jordan, Julia, Gabe, Ayden and Natalie; and one great-grandchild, Adalynn.

He is preceded in death by his parents and wife.

A memorial service will be held at the First Church of God in Brookville at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Furlong Funeral Home, Gregory K. Furlong FD, corner of Broad St. and First Ave., Summerville.

Interment will be in the Brookville Cemetery.
