DCC Moves into D9 1A Softball Semifinals with Ease


DUBOIS, Pa. (D9Sports) – Two-time defending champion and top-seeded DuBois Central Catholic pounded out 12 hits on its way to an 11-0, five-inning win over eighth-seeded Cameron County at Heindl Field in DuBois.

Shay Gulvas led the way for the Lady Cardinals going 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, three runs scored and three RBIs.

Chelsea Busatto added a 2-for-3 day with two runs scored and two RBIs, while Ashley Wruble was 2-for-2 with a walk, two runs scored and an RBI. Carley Semanick was also 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI for DCC with Jordan Kosko going 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Wruble cruised in the circle giving up two hits and hitting a batter while striking out six.

Amily Schatz and Julia Aiken had hits for Cameron County.

Laila Smith took the loss allowing 11 runs, nine earned, on 12 hits and two walks while striking out one.

DCC awaits the winner of the Otto-Eldred/Elk County Catholic game which is being played Thursday in the semifinals Saturday at a site and time to be determined.

DISTRICT 9 CLASS 4A SEMIFINALS

St. Marys 5, Clearfield 4, 9 innings

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Maura Fledderman’s walk-off single scored Maddie Bowes from second with the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning, as second-seeded St. Marys survived third-seeded Clearfield, 5-4.

The Lady Dutch led 4-1 in the seventh but Clearfield rallied to tie the game on a Makayla Ross single.

The Lady Bison then had runners on second and third with one out in the eighth but Fledderman shut the door to give her team a chance to win.

Then in the ninth with two outs, Bowes singled and Bekka Bauer reached on an error putting runners on first and second for Fledderman, who singled to left to win the game.

It was the third hit of the contest for Fledderman, who was 3-for-5 with a double and the RBI. Allison Schlimm was 2-for-3 with an RBI with Maddie LeGrys driving in a pair of runs and Micayla Bothun going 2-for-5. Megan McMackin also scored twice.

Ross was 2-for-5 with an RBI for Clearfield with Aspen Bishop adding a double.

Fledderman got the win going nine innings allowing four runs on six hits and seven walks while striking out seven.

Abby Fedder took the loss going 8 ⅔ innings allowing five runs, four earned, on 11 hits while striking out three.

St. Marys will face Punxsutawney in the title game at 4 p.m. Friday at Heindl Field in DuBois.
