DCC Set for District 9 Softball Playoffs; Cards Host Cameron County Monday

DUBOIS, Pa. (EYT) – Top-seeded DuBois Central Catholic starts its quest for a second District 9 Class A softball title in three years when it hosts eighth-seeded Cameron County at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

The unbeaten Lady Cardinals (19-0), the only unbeaten softball team in District 9, have rarely been tested this season winning 12 games that didn’t last the full seven innings because of the Mercy Rule plus a 13th game by double digits. Eight of the victories have been by shut out and in four more only one run has been allowed. In fact, DCC has allowed more than two runs just twice, in 9-4 win over Brookville April 20 and in a 14-3, six-inning win over Brockway April 6. The Lady Cardinals have outscored their opponents 235-21 on the season.

Riley Assalone is 13-0 in the circle this season and has struck over 100 batters while allowing just 14 runs and throwing a pair of no hitters to go with six shutouts.

The potent DCC offense is led by Jordy Frank, who has hit 11 home runs on the year but also has included strong seasons from Macy Hanes, Ashley Wruble, Stephanie Rossi, Libby Maurer and Assalone.

Cameron County (6-8) enters the playoffs having lost three straight and four of five.

Laila Smith is the leader of the Red Raiders both in the circle and at the plate. Madi Guisto, Taylor Johnson and Alyvia McKimm are other players to watch on offense for Cameron.

The winner of the game moves into the semifinals against the winner of Monday’s game between No. 5 A-C Valley and No. 4 Smethport. The semifinal contest will be played Wednesday at a site and time to be announced.
