Landfill Collapse Leaves Worker Trapped

ELK CO., Pa. (EYT) – A collapse at a landfill in Elk County has left a worker trapped.

According to wearecentralpa.com, at least one person was trapped at the Greentree Landfill near Kersey after some machinery slid down the landfill Wednesday afternoon.

According to the ridgwayrecord.com,  one person was still confirmed as missing. The person was operating a compactor when the collapse happened.

Late Wednesday, the man was still reported as missing by authorities.

There were four or five workers near the machine, and they were able to escape.

The landfill, owned by Advanced Disposal, is off Route 219, at the intersection of Route 153.

Three fire companies are assisting the trapped workers, and Ridgway-based State Police are on the scene.
