CLARION, Pa. (D9Sports.com) – St. Marys enters the Top Five of the Nov. 9, 2014, First Commonwealth Bank/D9Sports.com District 9 Top 10 Football Rankings at No. 5 and Brockway (No. 8) and Kane (No. 7) reenter the rankings after playoff wins this past week.
The top two teams in the rankings, No. 1 DuBois (8-2) and No. 2 Karns City (9-1) had byes into the next round of the postseason, while No. 3 Clarion (10-1) and No. 4 Clearfield (9-2) both got postseason victories Friday night.
After that, there was a lot of movement with St. Marys (8-3) moving up one spot to claim No. 5, and Union jumping three spots to take over No. 6. Kane’s win over previous No. 10 Elk County Catholic returned the Wolves (6-4) to the Top 10 at No. 7, Brockway’s victory over previous No. 5 Redbank Valley put the Rovers (6-5) in at No. 8 and dropped the Bulldogs (7-3), who finished the season with three straight losses to No. 10. AML Champion Ridgway (9-2), which saw its season end with its second loss to Union fills out the Top 10 at No. 9.
With the District 9 playoffs going into full swing this week, there are three matchups featuring Top 10 teams this week with Clarion facing Kane and Union taking on Brockway in the Class A semifinals and St. Marys squaring off with Karns City in the Class AA title game.
