Don C. Kearney

don Kearney obitDon C. Kearney, age 86 of 2802 Route 219 Brockway, PA; passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at his residence.

Born on February 23, 1930 in Brockway, he was the son of the late William Thomas and Bessie Hamilton McMinn Kearney. Don was married to the love of his life, Betty Jane Holmes for 46 years before she preceded him in death in 1997. Our dad was always “LARGER THAN LIFE.” He loved being with family and friends and enjoyed camping, hunting, farming at camp, singing, Nascar’s Bill Elliot, and PSU football. Don served in the U.S. Navy from 1948-1950.

Don worked several jobs but loved driving truck, During the course of his life, he drove coal truck and tractor trailer for local companies. He was self employed for many years before retiring to care for his wife.

Don is survived by 4 daughters: Linda Pierce of Brockway; Karen (Michael) Soble of Bellefonte; Dawn (David) Holt of Brockway and Marsha (Don) Guthridge of Falls Creek. In addition he is also survived by granddaughters Bridget Heilbrun and Missy (Rick) Rummel both of Brockway; Grandsons Donnie (Carrie) Heilbrun; Shawn Heilbrun and Kevin Schutz all of Brockway and Eric Soble of Philadelphia. Also surviving are great grandchildren: Jordan, Madison and Haley Rummel; Nathan, Lilly, Brea and Lainy Heilbrun all of Brockway; step grandchildren: Adam, Matthew and Christie Guthridge as well as numerous nieces and nephews including Gary “Pete” (Kathleen) Buskirk of Hermitage, PA.

In addition to his parents and his wife he is also preceded in death by 2 sisters: Marian Buskirk and Georgena Gorham and 1 brother William “Red” Kearney. Calling hours will be on Friday, March 25 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home Inc. in Brockway.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 26 at 1:00 PM also at the funeral home with Rev. Clair Lundberg officiating. Burial will follow in Beechwoods cemetery. Full Miliary Honors will be accorded by Parson-Marnati Post #95 of the American Legion Saturday afternoon at the cemetery.
