Donald W. “Jiggs” Himes

Donald W. “Jiggs” Himes, age 90, of Brockport, Pa, died on Thursday January 29, 2015 at Christ the King Manor in DuBois.

Born on January 20, 1925 in Shawmut, Pa; he was the son of the late Fred and Nellie Linane Himes. On October 23, 1948 He married Vera Rose Comiotti at the Coal Hollow Catholic Church in Coal Hollow, Pa by the Rev. Philip Herrmann and she survives.

Jiggs was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WWII during the Invasion of Normandy. He was retired from Brockway Glass with 38 years working in Machine Upkeep in the hot end. He was a member at both the Holy Cross Church in Brandy Camp and St. Tobias Church in Brockway. He also was a member of Parson-Marnatti Post #95 of the American Legion in Brockway.

Jiggs enjoyed traveling, hunting and being in the outdoors. He especially enjoyed trapping and was a lifetime member of the Trapper’s Association.

In addition to his wife he is also survived by a daughter Diane Amitrone of Brockway; a son William (Cathy) Himes of Brockport; 5 grandchildren: David Barber, Mary Ann (Chad) Nadji, Suzanne (Ed) Hynds, Joseph Barber, Matthew (Stephanie) Himes and 7 great grandchildren: Benjamin Barber, Angelina Hynds, Callie Barber, Maria Hynds, Jack Barber, Carter and Owen Himes. He was the last survivng member of his family.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a son: Donald W. Himes Jr; 2 sisters: Genevieve Rizzo, Geraldine Himes; and a brother: Lloyd “Butt” Himes.

Honoring his wishes there will be no public visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 2, 2015 at 9:00 A.M. at St. Tobias Church in Brockway, with Msgr. Charles Kaza and Fr. Ross Miceli as con-celebrant.

Full Military Honors will be accorded by Parson-Marnatti Post #95 of the American Legion Monday morning at the church. Burial will follow in St. Tobias Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association, St. Tobias Meals on Wheels, St. Vincent DePaul or the charity of the donors Choice.
