Dorothy Olive Elbell


Dorothy Olive Elbell, 91, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2021, at Penn Highlands Jefferson Manor in Brookville.

She was born in Bell Township on November 22, 1929, a daughter of the late Joseph E. Elbell and Elsie (Brunner) Elbell.

Dorothy was a member of the Cloe United Methodist Church. Ms. Elbell served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict.

Dorothy was a Registered Nurse and worked in Medsurg at Brookville Hospital until she retired.

She loved her job and enjoyed working. In her free time, she enjoyed traveling.

The most memorable trip was to the Holy Lands. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by four sisters, Lucille Baker, Imogene Hazlett, Alice “Aggie” Varner and Ruth Packer; two brothers, Joseph Elbell and an infant brother.

Arrangements are private and under the direction of Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

Interment will be at Brickell Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in Dorothy’s memory to the Cloe United Methodist Church or Just Us for the Animals.
