Driver Loses Control of Vehicle on I-80, Slams into Side of Bridge

SANDY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) – DuBois-based State Police responded to the scene of a one-vehicle crash that occurred on Interstate 80, near the 104 mile marker, in Sandy Township, Clearfield County.

According to police, the accident occurred around 10:19 a.m. February 21, as 16-year-old male driver, of DuBois, was traveling westbound on I-80 and lost control of his 2002 Kia Optima.

Police say the vehicle began rotating counter-clockwise, then traveled across the center line into the left lane and the left shoulder. It then impacted a concrete bridge rail with its left front end.

After impact, the vehicle continued traveling westbound while rotating counter-clockwise and impacted the left bridge rail with its rear.

The vehicle came to a final rest facing west on the left shoulder of the roadway.

The teen and his passenger – Anthony J. Marchewka, 47, of DuBois – were both uninjured in the collision.

Both occupants of the vehicle were wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The teen driver was cited with a traffic violation.
