DuBois, Other Area Schools Punch Ticket to Robotics World Championship in Dallas

CLARION, Pa. (EYT) — Several local robotics teams competed at the Western State Championship at PennWest Clarion University on Monday, March 4.

DuBois Area High School’s The Mad Scientists (pictured above) were tournament finalists, which earned an invitation to the World Championship.

One Clarion Area team—titled The Green Machine—ranked at the very top for a total high score (278) and was crowned Robot Skills Champion, earning an invitation to the World Championship in Dallas, Texas, to be held at the end of April.

Two North Clarion teams also received an invitation to the World Championship in Dallas, Texas, to be held at the end of April. One team—the Ineffable Inventors—were Tournament Champions and earned the Amaze Award, which recognizes a consistently high-performing and competitive robot.

North Clarion’s Ambiguous Case team finished in 2nd place in the Skills Challenge and earned the Excellence Award, which recognizes overall excellence in judging criteria and robot performance.

Four teams from Cranberry Area Jr/Sr High School took part in the competition. Among the qualifiers for the World Championship were VEX-tor, which won the Design Award, and Non-Copyright Infringing Cartoon Evil Guy Inc., which captured the Innovate Award.

An additional Cranberry team—Zombie Zebras—was awarded the Create Award; however, this award does not qualify for the World Championship.
