5th & 6th Grade Students Take Guitar Lessons in Music Class

The 5th and 6th grade students at East Forest Elementary have begun to take guitar lessons in their general music class.

The students receive a 40 minute lesson every week in which they study proper playing technique as well as chord playing, note reading, strumming, and picking. The students learn from a lesson book and have opportunities to play for the class as an individual or in small groups.

The goals of the lessons are to expose the students to the joys of playing the guitar as well as the work that goes into becoming a guitar player.

Instrumental lessons also enhance logical thinking, problem solving skills, as well as physical dexterity and coordination.

It serves as a way to inspire students to take lessons beyond what the class can offer. Parents are able to determine if making the investment of buying a guitar for their child is a wise investment because their child has already had an opportunity to try the guitar first through the school.

Mr. Brian Rosen is the music instructor at East Forest Elementary.
