Edinboro University Student Charged in Shooting Death of Former Student

EDINBORO, Pa. – Authorities say an Edinboro University student has been arrested in the shooting death of a former student outside an off-campus apartment complex on Water Street in Edinboro.

According to a published article in Erie Times-News, Trey Gunter, 21, of Pittsburgh, was arraigned Tuesday afternoon in Monday night’s shooting death of 22-year-old Tobiah Johnson near Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.

Gunter was ordered held without bail pending a December 2 preliminary hearing.

The school was locked down for nearly four hours following the shooting, which authorities allege followed a dispute over a stolen gun.

About 2,000 students live on the Edinboro campus. The university was hosting a basketball game when the lock down was ordered.
