Edwin G. Craig

Craig EdwinEdwin G. Craig, 90, passed away peacefully at Jefferson Manor in Brookville on Wednesday, July 1, 2015.

Mr. Craig was born in Pittsburgh on Oct. 23, 1924 the son of the late Elizabeth (Ketley) Walters.

On May 31, 1947, Edwin married Rebecca (Hamilton) Craig. She preceded him in death in September 2007.

Edwin was a U.S. Army veteran and served as a medic in Germany during World War II.

Edwin worked for Bell Telephone as both a lineman and manager. He retired after nearly 38 years with Bell Telephone.

Mr. Craig stayed extremely active in his personal life, his church and within the community of Punxsutawney after he retired.

He enjoyed being outdoors gardening, bird watching and golfing and working on jigsaw puzzles.

He member of the Presbyterian Church for over 60 years, serving as a church elder and an usher for over 50 years.

Edwin firmly believed in supporting his community, and was a former member of the Punxsutawney Borough Council and an active member in both the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks and the American Legion. He was also a member of the Bell Telephone Pioneers.

Edwin absolutely treasured his family, which brought him great joy, especially his four great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.

Edwin is survived by two sons, Donald A. Craig and wife Lisa of Pulaski, Pa., and Lance Craig and wife Karen of Mercer, Pa.; two daughters, Diane R. Forsythe and husband Richard of Punxsutawney and Laurie Craig and partner Kathy Kopp of Worthville; five grandchildren, Tyler Craig and wife Rebekah, Kelly Miller and husband Brandon, Mark Ewing and wife Amber, Becky Petrini and A.J. Craig; and four great-grandchildren, Madysen Ewing, Peyton Petrini and Austin and Rylee Ewing.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Burgin; and a grandson, Matthew Ewing.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, July 5, 2015, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 6, 2015, at the Presbyterian Church, officiated by Pastor Brett Swanson.
