Edwin Harry Litz

Edwin Harry Litz, 96, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2022 in Dubois, PA.

Born on January 18, 1926 in Lock Haven, “Eddie” was the son of the late Margaret and Clyde Litz.

He attended Lock Haven High School and enlisted in the U. S. Navy at age 17, a few months before graduation.

Ed served in World War ll, and earned a Purple Heart for being wounded in action when his ship, the USS Gamble DM-15, was hit by a Japanese bomb and caught fire in the battle of Iwo Jima.

In 1947, Ed married Frances Rizzo, who predeceased him.

They lived in Lock Haven where Ed worked as a bricklayer on projects such as Lock Haven High School, St. Agnes Parish, and Beaver Stadium.

He later married Florence Barner Gates.

Eddie and Flo had the opportunity to travel the world while he worked for Corning Glass Works as the project head of the glass furnaces that were built in Seoul, Korea and Shanghai, China.

When he retired in 1990, they moved to Mill Hall, PA and then Lakeland FL, before settling in Dubois, PA.

Eddie enjoyed golf, wrestling, sports, furniture restoration, yard work, and using his artistic approach as a brick and stone mason for family and friends.

Most of all he enjoyed dancing with Florence.

Ed was a life member of the Lock Haven Elks Club, a member of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local #3 Rochester NY, and a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Snydertown, PA.

Eddie is survived by three daughters, Majella Litz Matyas (George), Marci Litz Smith (Mike), and Stacie Litz Winkleman (Bill) and three step children, Judy Gates (Ross), Kathy Snook (Barry) and Roger Gates (Cathy) as well as 4 grandchildren: Andrea Smith, Clint Smith, Chris Winkleman, and Andrew Winkleman, 2 step grandchildren: Shawn Best and Amanda Gates, 7 great grandchildren, and a nephew, Gary Litz.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Clyde Litz, his two brothers, Carl Litz and Bob Litz, and wife, Florence Gates Litz.

Memorial and Military services is to be held Monday, December 12, 2022 at 11:00 am in the St. Mark Lutheran Church, 850 Snydertown Road, Howard, PA 16841 with Pastor David Pencek presiding under the direction of Gedon Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, LLC, 121 W. Main St., Lock Haven, PA 17745

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Snydertown Cemetery or St. Mark Lutheran Church, 850 Snydertown Road, Howard, PA 16841.
