Eleanor Kennis

Eleanor Kennis, 89, of RD 3 Punxsy, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at home, peacefully, surrounded by her family.

She married Charles B. Kennis, the love of her life, on June 20, 1947; he preceded her in death on August 6, 1991.

Eleanor attended Sykesville School, and was a supervisor at Cameron in Reynoldsville before becoming a farmer’s wife and a homemaker for many years. After her children were grown, she worked at the Shoe Factory in Big Run and later retired from Rockwell in DuBois.

Eleanor was an avid baseball and football fan, especially the Pirates and Steelers. Some of her other joys were canning, traveling with her husband, swimming with her buddies at the YMCA, shopping, crocheting and, most of all, spending time with all of her family.

Eleanor is survived by her four children: Gary Kennis of RD 3 Punxsy, William and wife Brenda Kennis of RD 3 Punxsy, Connie Lightner of St. Marys and Lori and husband Edward Angelo of St. Marys; six grandchildren: Melissa Ellenberger, Ashley and husband Dan Bowser, Justin Angelo, David Angelo, Jessica and husband Adam Barbazzini and Nicholas Lightner; six great-grandchildren: Aiden Angelo, Logan Ellenberger, Camron and Chase Bowser, Dominick and Lexi Angelo and an unborn baby Barbazzini due in January.

Eleanor was also preceded in death by her sister, Jean (Clark) Muth; and a son-in-law, Phillip Lightner.

Visitation will be held on July 30, 2015, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and July 31, 2015, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Leo Nedza Funeral Home in Sykesville.

A Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2015, at Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church with the Fr. Robert Karl as celebrant. Interment will follow in Lakelawn Memorial Park.

The family suggests donations to either Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church in Sykesville, Christ the King Manor, or Hospice 365 at 5000 6th Ave. Suite 6, Altoona, PA 16602.
