Emery L. Van Horn

Emery L. Van Horn, 81, of Boalsburg, died Sunday, May 6, 2018, at home.

Born April 15, 1937, in Penfield, PA, he was the son of the late Emery E. and Frances Benton Van Horn. On September 7, 1957, he married Joan Moyer at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Kersey, PA.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Kelly Van Horn and her husband, Barry Deardorff, of Bear, DE, Denise Bird and her husband, Steve, of Harrisburg, and Douglas Van Horn and his wife, Leah, of Elkton, MD; five siblings, Marion Micklick of Eldersburg, MD, Carol Parziale of Weedville, Vern Van Horn and his wife, Dot, of Dubois, Les Van Horn and his wife, Donna, of Inverness, FL, and Michael Van Horn and his wife, Ellen, of St. Marys; six grandchildren, Brian and Michelle Bird, Rachel, Garret, Jack, and Cole Van Horn.

Emery graduated from Huston Township High School in Penfield in 1955. He retired as the Maintenance Director for St. Marys Area School District. He was also a certified electrician and HVAC specialist.

Emery enjoyed many hobbies, including; camping, fishing, hunting, boating, and writing poems. He was an avid Penn State Football and Wrestling supporter and was a member of the Nittany Lion club. Emery had many talents; he was a skilled craftsman and woodworker and enjoyed playing and coaching baseball.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 355 Main Street, Kersey, PA, with the Rev. Ross Miceli officiating. The family will receive friends at the church’s Gathering Room from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

Emery was a selfless father, grandfather, and friend to many. He can never die, as his love will always live on in our hearts.
