Case Against Phillips

According to a criminal complaint, on December 23, 2016, around 11:18 p.m. a known woman arrived at the DuBois-based Police Station to report an incident that occurred at a residence located on Beechtree Road, in Washington Township, Jefferson County.

The known woman advised that she was at the residence sleeping when Steven Phillips “came into the room and allegedly ripped her out of bed” and made accusations against her. Phillips “then pushed and grabbed at (the known woman). He grabbed an iPad in which he broke,” the complaint states.

Phillips then “retrieved a loaded 40 Cal. handgun that was located in a nightstand beside the bed and pointed into the known woman’s chest and stated ‘I’m going to (expletive) kill you both,'” the complaint indicates.

The known woman retrieved her coat and shoes and exited the residence. She entered her vehicle and started to drive away when Phillips allegedly fired a single round from the handgun, the complaint continues.

According to the complaint, “Phillips advised that he retrieved the firearm and fired a round into the air to alarm (the known woman).”

DuBois-based State Police filed criminal charges against Phillips at 5:48 a.m. on December 24 in front of Magisterial District Judge David B. Inzana.

He was then lodged in the Jefferson County Jail on $35,000.00 monetary bail; however, his bail was posted by a professional bondsman on January 4, and he was released awaiting his trial.
