Firefighters Extinguish Kitchen Fire in Hawthorn

HAWTHORN, Pa. (EYT) – Multiple crews responded to a structure fire at a residence in the Hawtorn area this morning.

Firefighters from Hawthorn, New Bethlehem, Distant, and Summerville were dispatched around 6:52 a.m. for a report of smoke in a residence located along Maple Street.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a small fire in the home’s kitchen. Crews quickly extinguished the fire and then cleared the smoke out of the house.

Hawthorn VFD Assistant Fire Chief Curtis Kiehl says the fire resulted in minimal damage.

Crews cleared the scene around 9 a.m.

The cause of the fire is believed to be a faulty electric candle; however, the official cause has not yet been determined.

Clarion Hospital EMS also responded to the scene.

No injuries were reported.
