Francis E. “Fran” Gutowski, age 72, North Third Street, DuBois, PA died Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Penn Highlands DuBois.
Born March 31, 1945 in DuBois, PA, he was the son of the late Frank A. and Rachel M. (Cheslock) Gutowski.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served during the Vietnam War serving in France.
On July 20, 1968, he married Rita (Novario) Gutowski. She survives.
Fran retired from Penelec as an office supervisor after 28 years of service. After retirement, he was the owner/operator of Nelson’s Grocery on Maple Avenue.
He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church where he was a member of the funeral lunch team.
He was a past board member of the DuBois Area United Way and the American Red Cross.
He was a member of Compassionate Friends.
His passion was cooking and taking care of people, but above all, he loved being with his family.
Fran is survived by five daughters (Julia Gutowski; Jennifer Nixon and her husband, Donald; Mary Shaffer and her husband, Brian; Frances “Franny” Gallagher and her husband, Brian; and Nicki Gutowski and her companion, Nick Forsythe, all of DuBois, PA) two sisters (Helena Leair and her husband, Clarence and Mary Gutowski, both of Weedville, PA), and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons (Joseph and Henry Gutowski).
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 30, 2017 from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. at the Baronick Funeral Home and Crematorium, Inc.
A Scriptural Wake Service will be held on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 P.M. from the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 1, 2017 at 10 A.M. from St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer and Fr. B. LaMonte Sayers con-celebrating.
Burial will be in St. Catherine’s Cemetery.
