Gary D. Keith

The Rev. Gary D. Keith, 44, of Hawthorn, Pa., died Sunday, April 13, 2014, at Punsxutawney Area Hospital.

Born July 22, 1969, in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Elmer D. Keith and Patrica E. Choate, who survives, of Olathe, Kan.

He graduated from Moravia High School in Moravia, Iowa.

He received a degree in religion from Mid America Nazarene University in Olathe, Kan. He also attended Nazarene Bible College.

He was married to Amanda Hetrick on August 7, 1993, in Brookville.

He was the pastor of Hawthorn Church of the Nazarene for the past two years. Prior to that, he was the pastor at The Church of the Nazarene in Punxsutawney for nine years.

Gary liked to travel. He enjoyed playing video games with his children. He was a sports enthusiast and loved his Pirates.

Along with his mother and wife, Gary is survived by two sons, Caleb J. and Elijah D. Keith; two daughters, Abi’Gail E. and Grace R. Keith; and one sister, Donna Keith Oster and husband John of Olathe, Kan. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

His family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014, at the Hawthorn Church of the Nazarene, 1142 Chestnut St., Hawthorn, Pa.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014, at the church.

Interment will be at the Ohl Cemetery, Beaver Township, Jefferson County.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Furlong Funeral Home, Summerville.

Per the family’s request, memorial donations may be made to the Hawthorn Church of the Nazarene, or the Lions Club.
