Gene A. Shaffer

Gene A. Shaffer, 87, formerly of Shannondale, PA, died at the Jefferson Manor Health Center in Brookville, PA on Saturday January 6, 2018.

Gene was born in Clarion on August 8, 1930, to the late James W. and Florence (Siverling) Shaffer. He married his wife Esther on November 11, 1971. She preceded him in death on January 10, 2012. Gene worked as a laborer for Stahlman Coal Company and also worked on Joe Sherman’s farm in Mayport. Gene was a member of the Shannondale Lutheran Church.

Gene enjoyed watching professional wrestling and sitting on his front porch watching people go by.

Gene is survived by two sons, Gene Allen Shaffer of Mayport, and Wilford Leroy Shaffer of Ringgold. Also surviving is a brother Dale “Betty” Shaffer of Shannondale, a sister-in-law in Brookville, and several grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents and wife, Gene was preceded in death by a brother Harold “Bud” Shaffer.

Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Furlong Funeral Home, corner of Broad St. and First Ave., Summerville, PA. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday January 10, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at the Furlong Funeral Home with Rev. Ben Austin officiating. Interment will be in the Shannondale Union Cemetery, Redbank Twp., Clarion County.
