Hazel W. Grist

Hazel W. Grist, 90, of Punxsutawney passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at the Punxsutawney Area Hospital on Friday April 30, 2021.

Hazel was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Hazel was a loving mother of seven children, Bonnie Grist of Punxy, Debra Grist Davis of Winston Salem, NC, George Grist of Punxy, Della Grist of Punxy and Carolyn Grist of Punxy. She was preceded in death by two children, Sharon Grist Wright of Stafford, VA and Donald Grist of Stafford, VA.

She deeply loved her eleven grandchildren and helped raise them at different times: Sammy Diehl, Thomas Wright, David Warfield Jr., Holly Neely, Dana Neely, Aubree Grist, RhiAnnon Byers, Neil Grist, Skylar Catarouche, Brian Barto and Angel Barto.

In addition to her grandchildren, she had sixteen great-great grandchildren.

She enjoyed cooking Sunday dinners for her children and traveling to Prince Gallitzin State Park and Hemlock Lake for picnics. She also loved decorating her Christmas tree for every occasion.

Hazel’s funeral care is under the direction of the Richard L. Fait Funeral Home of Punxsutawney, PA.

There will be a public visitation held at the Fait Funeral Home on Thursday May 6, 2021, from 3 PM – 7 PM.

The funeral home requests that all who visit take appropriate COVID-19 precautions by wearing a mask and maintaining social distancing. Crowd size will be monitored and regulated by the state law in effect at the time of visitation.

There will be a funeral service followed by burial at the La Jose Cemetery on Friday May 7, 2021, at noon.

Immediately following the funeral service a celebration of life gathering for Hazel will be held at the Starlite Restaurant and Lounge in Mahaffey, PA.

Hazel will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
