Hearing Continued for Punxsy Man Accused of Choking Juvenile Victim During Domestic Dispute

JEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) – A hearing was continued on Wednesday for Punxsutawney man who allegedly choked a juvenile victim during a domestic dispute in Gaskill Township.

Court documents indicate a preliminary hearing for 22-year-old Malik Lee Click was continued on Wednesday, October 13, and is scheduled to resume at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 9.

He faces the following charges:

– Strangulation – Applying Pressure to Throat or Neck, Felony 2
– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
– Harassment – Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary

He is currently lodged in the Jefferson County Jail on $40,000.00 monetary bail.

The charges stem from an incident at a Gaskill Township residence earlier this month.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, around 10:54 p.m. on October 5, Punxsutawney-based State Police were contacted by a known juvenile victim in regards to an ongoing domestic incident at a residence on State Route 36, in Gaskill Township, Jefferson County.

Police proceeded to the scene where they spoke to the victim.

The victim reported that she and Malik Click had engaged in a verbal argument that turned physical after she turned off the television and went to bed. The victim told police that Click then began to kick her in the thigh and took her phone, according to the complaint.

The victim reported that she was able to get her phone back from Click, but he then pinned her down on the bed with his forearm across her throat. She stated that she was unable to breathe and was near the point of passing out, the complaint continues.

The victim suffered minor injuries to the left side of her neck consistent with being strangled, the complaint notes.

Click was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Douglas Robert Chambers at 8:50 a.m. on Wednesday, October 6.

Court documents indicate Malik is also awaiting sentencing in Armstrong County on one first-degree misdemeanor count of theft by unlawful taking in relation to an incident in Ford City Borough on October 6, 2020. He pleaded guilty to the charge on September 2, 2021, but sentencing for the case has not yet been scheduled.
