Hearing for Brockway Man Who Failed to Return to Jefferson County Jail from Work Release Set for Tuesday

PINE CREEK TWP., Pa. (EYT) – A hearing is scheduled for Tuesday for a Brockway man who reportedly failed to return to the Jefferson County Jail from a work release program.

Court documents indicate 33-year-old Kyle James Atwood is scheduled to stand for a preliminary hearing in front of Magisterial District Judge Gregory M Bazylak at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, on the following charge:

– Escape, Misdemeanor 1

The charge stems from an incident that occurred in June.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, on June 12, Judge John H. Foradora sentenced Kyle Atwood to ninety days incarceration in the Jefferson County Jail for indirect criminal contempt.

Around 10:55 a.m. on July 24, Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies were requested to assist Jefferson County Probation with the arrest of Kyle Atwood, who had an active arrest warrant through Jefferson County Probation and had reportedly left an approved work release program and failed to return to the Jefferson County Jail, the complaint states.

Atwood agreed to turn himself in at his residence in Brockway. The deputies and probation officers then proceeded to Atwood’s residence, and he was taken into custody without further incident, the complaint notes.

The charge was filed against Atwood through Magisterial District Judge Gregory M. Bazylak’s office on July 31.

Court documents indicate Atwood has a history of criminal activity, ranging from burglary and theft to drug charges, in Jefferson County as well as Armstrong County and Clearfield County.
