Hearing for Punxsy Man Busted Selling Drugs Set for Next Week

PUNXSUTAWNEY BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – A hearing for a Punxsutawney man who reportedly sold drugs to a confidential informant and an undercover agent is scheduled for next week.

Court documents indicate 35-year-old Virgil R. Eakin is scheduled to stand for a preliminary hearing in front of Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock at 11:30 a.m. on December 14, on the following charges:

– Manufacture, Delivery, or Possession With Intent to Manufacture or Deliver, Felony (two counts)
– Criminal Use Of Communication Facility, Felony 3 (two counts)
– Possession of Controlled Substance, Misdemeanor (two counts)

The charges stem from incidents in Punxsutawney Borough in September.

According to a criminal complaint, on September 17, agents of the Jefferson County Drug Task Force met with a Confidential Informant (C.I.) who indicated that he/she could assist in the purchase of Suboxone from Virgil Eakin.

The complaint indicates the C.I. also provided police with several text messages between Eakin and the C.I. detailing the sale of Suboxone, with an arrangement for Eakin to sell the C.I. five Suboxone strips for $10.00 each.

According to the complaint, police then observed while the C.I. exchanged $50.00 in pre-recorded funds for a ziplock baggie containing five Suboxone sublingual films from Eakin.

According to a second complaint, on September 21, another controlled purchase involving Virgil Eakin took place.

The complaint indicates Eakin sold a jar containing 12 round blue pills, identified as Oxycodone and acetaminophen (Percocet), and marijuana to an undercover agent for $40.00 in pre-recorded funds.

The charges were filed against Eakin through Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock’s office on October 29.
