Hearing Continued for Punxsy Man Who Said He Hit Child Because ‘He’s Old School’

JEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) – A hearing for a Punxsutawney man who allegedly struck a child in the face, causing a laceration to the child’s lip, has been continued.

Court documents indicate a hearing for 35-year-old Scott Allan Watson initially scheduled for Friday, April 24, has been continued and is scheduled to resume at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29.

Watson faces the following charges:

– Endangering Welfare of Children – Parent/Guardian/Other Commits Offense, Misdemeanor 1
– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 1
– Harassment – Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary

The charges stem from an incident that occurred in Punxsutawney in early March.

According to a criminal complaint, around 9:30 a.m. on March 9, Officer Andrekovich of the Punxsutawney Borough Police Department was contacted by a Jefferson County Children and Youth Services (CYS) worker requesting assistance.

According to the complaint, it was reported that Scott Allan Watson had struck a known juvenile victim in the mouth, causing the victim to suffer a laceration to his lip.

Officer Andrekovich made contact with Watson and a known woman.

According to the complaint, Watson stated he heard the victim yelling around 2:00 a.m. and went into the victim’s bedroom and “smacked him in the mouth because he is old school.”

The complaint notes the victim was brought downstairs, and his injury was photographed.

The charges were filed against Watson through Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock’s office on Thursday, March 12.
