Helen L. Burris Murray

Murray, Helen CroppedHelen L. Burris Murray, 94, of Strobleton passed away January 13, 2015 at Hamot Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born on July 28, 1921 in Bowling Green, OH she was the daughter of George W and Laura O’Neil Burris.

She graduated from the Oil City Beauty School in 1956 and opened her own shop at her home in 1957, which she operated it for over 40 years.

On September 2, 1941 Helen was married to William LeRoy Murray who preceded her in death on March 11, 2003.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Venus.

Helen was an avid bingo player and she was a member of the Venango County Homemakers Club. She was also an avid gardener and also enjoyed canning.

He is survived by her children: George L. Murray and wife Virginia of Oil City, Gerald W. Murray and wife Rosie of Tionesta, Ronald Murray and wife Sharon of Tionesta, Connie Culp and husband Dave of Knox. Grandchildren surviving include: Chadd Murray and wife Michelle of Strattanville; Nathan Murray and wife Bridget of Oil City; Angela Fair and husband Jeff of Callensburg; Christine Ames of Tionesta and husband Brent of New Mexico; Shelia Murray of Pittsburgh; Brian Murray and wife Carrie of Mooresville NC; David Culp and wife Cindy of Knox; Esther Weathers and husband James of Lexington SC. Fifteen great-grandchildren a brother-in-law Norman Weaver of Rockland, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Her constant companion Lady Babe her Boston Terrier also survives.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William, brothers Carl and Russell Burris, a sister Betty Weaver and two infant sisters Lucy and Lucille Burris.

Friends will be received at the Faller Funeral Home, Inc. in Fryburg on Sunday, January 17, 2016 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.

Funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday, January 18, 2016 at Faith Lutheran Church in Venus, with Rev. John A Wood Pastor presiding.

Interment will be in the Venus Cemetery following the service.

Memorials in Helen’s honor may be made to Faith Lutheran Church in Venus.
