Helen Ruth Yount

Helen Ruth Yount, 88, of Big Run, passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2021, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

She was born in Gaskill Township on June 12, 1933, a daughter of the late Clyde R. McKee and Myrtle Ruth (Bowers) McKee.

On August 30, 1953, she married Rodger William Yount. He preceded her in death on April 27, 1984.

Helen was a member of the Big Run Presbyterian Church, where she also belonged to the former Ladies Guild.

Mrs. Yount was a licensed Insurance Agent and sold Patron’s Mutual Insurance at her brother Gene McKee’s insurance office in Big Run.

She was a devoted wife and mother, she will be remembered as the “Best Mother in the world”.

She diligently cared for her daughter Debbie. The two lived together and she tended to all Debbie’s needs and made sure that she was well cared for. Her parenting helped Debbie excel and live a very productive adult life.

Helen enjoyed reading, loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was the person that everyone went to if someone needed to be lifted up in prayers, her faith was strong and steadfast.

Helen always had a smile on her face and had the best laugh, she could brighten anyone’s day with her cheery “it is what it is” attitude.

She is survived by five children, Clyde “Ed” Edwin Yount and wife Cindy Lee of Rockton, Debra Jean Yount of Big Run, Sandra Himes and husband Lee of Mayport, Lisa K. Cameron and husband Brian of Rossiter, and William Steven Yount and wife Dawn of Punxsutawney; four grandchildren, Jennifer Kritta and husband Charles, Alicia Averette and husband Brandon, Danielle Smith and husband Heath, Melissa Ames and husband Ryan; four great grandchildren; one sister, Irene Smith of Punxsutawney; one brother, Clyde Eugene McKee of Delancey.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband Rodger; two brothers, Melvin and Donald McKee.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday, December 23, 2021, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will follow at Lakelawn Memorial Park, Reynoldsville.
