Herbert Leroy Hindman

Herbert Leroy Hindman, 91, of Route 66, Lucinda, formerly of Strattanville, died on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at the Jefferson Manor in Brookville.

Born November 11, 1922 in Union Township, Jefferson County; he was the son of the late Harry A. and Margaret (Lucas) Hindman.

A veteran of WWII, Herb served in the Army from 1943 to 1946.

He was married on October 6, 1951 to the former Lillian M. Kammerdiner, who preceded him in death on February 28, 1987. He then spent many years with his long-time companion, Betty Burchfield, who also preceded him in death on July 29, 2013.

His greatest love was for the Lord. He attended the Riverhill Evangelical Church in Clarion. He loved to go to Bible studies and to learn more about his Lord.

He was employed as a trucker driver for 12 years, worked in auto salvage for 38 years, where he worked for Chatman Auto Parts, Ridgeway Sellsburg Auto Wrecking, Himes Sales, and Sligo Auto Salvage, and then worked as a Walmart greeter for 13 years. His favorite hobby was greeting people.

Herb was a member of the Strattanville American Legion Post #0249 for 26 years.

Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Peggy A. Hummel; a grandson, Raymond D. Hummel and his wife, Tonya; a granddaughter, Tonya Rae Meier and her husband, Wade; eight great grandchildren, Amanda, Uri, Mercy, and Zane Hummel, Derek Schaffer, Corey Rainey, and Tyler and Aiden Meier.

Also surviving are three sisters, Betty Pierce, Mary Cook, and Nancy Neiswonger and her husband, Harry; the two children of the late Betty Burchfield, Beth Koziara and her husband, Larry and Victor “Pete” Burchfield and his wife, Carol; and five grandchildren, Bret, Brad, and Brian Burchfield, and Kurtis Koziara and his wife, Kera, and Kortnee Koziara; and four great grandchildren, Ryan, Braden, Justin, and Page; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; three brothers, Earl Hindman, Harold Hindman, and Ralph Hindman; a stepson, Raymond C. Hummel; a great granddaughter, Storm Rae Hummel.

Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, 638 Wood Street, Clarion, and from 10 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at the Riverhill Evangelical Church, 11133 Route 322, Shippenville.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at the Riverhill Evangelical Church in Shippenville with Pastor Terry Jacobs, pastor of the Riverhill Evangelical Church, and Pastor Randy Evans, Clarion Forest VNA Hospice Chaplain, co-officiating.

Interment will be held in the Cedarview Memorial Park in Strattanville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Riverhill Evangelical Church, 11133 Route 322, Shippenville PA 16254.
