Heritage House Senior Community Center to Host Free Presentation

gin2BROOKVILLE, Pa. –The Heritage House will host a free MindMatters presentation titled “Shackleton’s Antarctic Adventure: The Greatest Survival Story of All Time.” on Wednesday, February 11, at its location in Brookville, Jefferson County.

Beginning at 10 a.m., the hour-long video presentation will be streamed over high-speed internet by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging and feature Lou Thieblemont, a professional speaker, amateur historian and former mayor of Camp Hill, Pa.

The presentation takes viewers back to 1914, when Sir Ernest Schackleton and his men embarked on a daring and ground-breaking expedition to walk across the South Pole. When their ship the Endurance was trapped and destroyed by ice, the British explorer and his group faced a harsh, frigid environment, defying the odds to survive largely through sheer perseverance.

Following the presentation, a live question-and answer session will allow attendees the opportunity to submit questions to Thieblemont for real-time video discussion.

Regular visitors and guests are welcome to attend the presentation.

MindMatters is a free monthly lecture series featuring knowledgeable presenters discussing intellectually stimulating topics of interest. It is presented by the Department of Aging and produced by WITF, Harrisburg’s PBS and NPR affiliate.

Future topics include “Exercise is Medicine,” which will be presented at the same location on March 11 at 10 a.m. by Daniel G. Drury, an Exercise Physiologist and Associate Professor of Health Sciences at Gettysburg College.

The series is offered regularly on the second Wednesday of the month.

The Heritage House is located at 4 Sylvania Street, Brookville, Pa. 15825.
