HS Baseball Recaps: Brookville, Punxsy, DuBois, DCC All Get Wins Wednesday

A look at Wednesday’s high-school baseball recaps

BROOKVILLE 11, BROCKWAY 7

BROCKWAY, Pa. – A six-run seventh inning propelled visiting Brookville to an 11-7 win at Brockway Wednesday.

The Raiders trailed 6-5 entering the seventh but Kyle Dunkle got the rally started with a one-out, two-run single to give Brookville the lead. Ben Caun followed with a two-run single, and later in the inning Austin Cook added a two-run base hit.

Brookville held an early 4-0 lead before Brockway used a five-run third to take 6-4 advantage.

Dunkle was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored for the Raiders. Logan Thrush was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs, while Ben Reitz was 2-for-4 andCaun 1-for-2 with two walks and two RBIs.

Seth Shugarts paced Brockway going 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Hunter Antonuccio was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs and Mike Martino was 1-for-4 with a double.

Reitz got the win in relief of Wyatt Shaffer going 4 ⅔ innings allowing one run on two hits while striking out four.

Corey Carr took the loss for Brockway giving up nine run on six hits and six walks while striking out six.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 15, BRADFORD 5, 6 INNINGS

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Punxsutawney’s offense proved to be too much for Bradford, as the homestanding Chucks knocked off the Owls, 15-5, Wednesday.

Dylan Huey had a two-run base hit for Punxsy, while Lucas Ambler had a double and Lance Pennington and Braxton Giavedoni triples.

Brandon Matthews and Peyton Graham combined on an 8-hitter on the mound for the Chucks.

Connor Vecellio had a big day for Bradford hitting a two-run home run in the first and driving in three on the day.

Andrew Bacha took the loss for the Owls.

DUBOIS 8, BELLEFONTE 7

BELLEFONTE, Pa. – A five-run fourth inning and a three-run fifth helped DuBois escape Bellefonte with an 8-7 victory Wednesday.

Brayden Paulinellie and Michael Polohonki each drove in two runs for the Beavers, while Nick LaBrasca was 3-for-3 with a double and Adam Bankovich was 2-for-4 with a double. Brandon Simbeck, running for LaBrasca, scored twice as did Ryan Pasternik.

LaBrasca got the complete-game win. He allowed seven runs, four earned, on nine hits while striking out 10. He didn’t walk a batter.

Logan Mathieu was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs for Bellefonte, while Mark Armstrong was 2-for-3 with three runs scored.

Bellefonte scored a run in the bottom of the seventh before LaBrasca shut the door.

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 15, KANE 0, 4 INNINGS

DUBOIS, Pa. – Behind a towering two-run home run by Jake Miknis, DuBois Central Catholic shutout visiting Kane, 15-0, in the season opener for both teams Wednesday at Showers Field in DuBois.

According to DCC head coach Andy Sayers, the Cardinals took advantage of walks and played really well in their first game.

“Thomas Grecco, Ty Bittner and Minkis all had solid game,” Sayers said.
