HS Baseball Roundup: Big First Inning Leads Brookville Past Kane

Monday’s baseball recaps.

BROOKVILLE 14, KANE 0, 5 INNINGS

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Brookville sent 16 batters to the plate and scored 11 first-inning runs on its way to a 14-0, five-inning victory over visiting Kane.

That was more than enough for the trio of pitchers Jordan Tosh. Nick Keth and Brady Caylor, who combined on a three-hitter in the win. Keith went the middle three innings to get the win allowing two hits and two walks while striking out three.

The Raiders had 10 hits with Kyle Dunkle and Trenton Gilhousen with two apiece. Ben Reitz had a three-run double in the first inning.

Ange Costanzo had two of Kane’s three hits.

WILLIAMSPORT 6, PUNXSUTAWNEY 4, 8 INNINGS

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Evan Steele’s RBI double in the top of the eighth inning broke a 4-all tie and helped Williamsport to a 6-4 win at Punxsutawney.

Steele, who eventually came around to score the the Millionaires’ sixth run, looked like he was going to be the hero an inning early when he broke a 2-all tie in the top of the seventh with a two-run blast to left.

But Punxsutawney fought back tying the game on a Braxton Giavedoni double followed by a Lucas Burkett single in the bottom of the inning .

Giavedoni had his usual strong game going 2-for-4 with a double and a home run and three RBIs. Burkett was 2-for-4 with the RBI, while Peyton Graham had a double and a run scored while going 2-for-4 and John Matthews was 2-for-3 with a walk.

Giavedoni suffered the loss pitching 1 ⅔ innings of relief giving up the two runs on three hits while striking out three.

John Matthews started and was strong giving up two runs, one earned, on five hits and a walk while striking out 11 in six innings. Burkett pitched a ⅓ of an inning surrendering the Steele home run.

Steele was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored for Williamsport, with Ethen Stryker going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Jaler Jackson got the win in relief.

DUBOIS 4, ST. MARYS 2

DUBOIS, Pa. – Noah Schneider, Nick Labrasca and Zach Sloan combined on a five-hitter, as DuBois toppled visiting St. Marys, 4-2, at Showers Field.

Schneider got the win going 5 ⅔ innings and allowing two runs, both earned, on four hits and five walks while striking out six. Labrasca then came in with two outs in the sixth, the bases loaded and a run in. He hit a batter to force home a second run before inducing an inning-ending, rally-ending pop out. Sloan picked up the save walking a batter and striking one out in the seventh.

Drew Bankovich and Tate Rutherford each had a pair of hits for DuBois with Bankovich driving home a run and scoring a run and Rutherford scoring once. Labrasca and Adam Bankovich both doubled for the Beavers and had RBIs with Labrasca also scoring a run.

Jeff Wehler had a day at the plate for St. Marys going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and a run scored.

Nate Beimel took the loss going six innings and allowing four runs, two earned, on seven hits and six walks while striking out seven. He also had a hit and an RBI on offense while walking twice.

UNION 20, FOREST AREA 5, 3 INNINGS

RIMERSBURG, Pa. – Lucas Bowser went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and four runs scored to lead Union to a 20-5, three-inning win over visiting Forest Area.

Dugan Gallagher was also 1-for-2 with a double, two RBis and three runs scored for the Golden Knights, while Isaac Yoder was 1-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored.

Reice Saylor got the win in relief of Dana Logue. He pitched six batters and didn’t allow a hit while walking two and a hitting a batter. He struck out three. Logue pitched to the first eight batters allowing two hits and three walks while striking out two and being charged with four earned runs.
