CHERRY TREE BOROUGH, Pa. — District Attorney Robert Manzi announced on Thursday, May 18, the purchase of a police cruiser for the Cherry Tree Borough Police Department.

The vehicle was purchased with money that was seized by defendants who were investigated and prosecuted for selling drugs in Indiana County.

Utilizing the civil asset forfeiture act, the District Attorney’s Office has aggressively sought to seize and forfeit items that are proceeds or purchased with the proceeds of trafficking drugs in the county.

“This upgrade for the Cherry Tree Borough Police department will directly help the police department, citizens of Cherry Tree, the surrounding townships and Indiana County,” said Manzi. “By having an upgraded vehicle, the police department can ensure quick and safe response to a variety of crime in Cherry Tree and the surrounding communities.”

This upgrade for the department was completed without any taxpayer dollars.

“Chief Scherf’s work on the Indiana County Drug Task Force helped secure the funds available to purchase this vehicle,” Manzi noted. “We are happy to partner with him and Cherry Tree Borough to help continue keeping it a safe community.”
