Indiana County Man Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash

CHERRYHILL TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Police say an Indiana County man was killed in a crash that occurred on Route 286 in Cherryhill Township on Thursday afternoon.

According to police, the crash occurred around 2:43 p.m. on Thursday, May 20, on State Route 286, just west of Diamondville Road, in Cherryhill Township, Indiana County,

Police say a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling eastbound on Route 286 and was over the fog line on the southern berm of the road when it came up behind a disabled box truck and swerved in an attempt to avoid hitting the truck.

The Chevy then crossed its lane of travel and the center lines into the westbound lane and struck a 2013 Dodge RAM 5500 head-on. A 2010 Dodge Avenger traveling behind the Dodge RAM then struck the Chevy as it spun on the roadway following the initial impact.

According to a release from Indiana County Coroner Jerry L. Overman, Jr., the driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 59-year-old Bernard Greene, Jr., of Greene Township, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was then entrapped in his vehicle. He was extricated from his vehicle by Clymer Volunteer Firefighters.

Greene was pronounced dead at the scene by Chief Deputy Coroner Robert Padasak.

According to Overman, Greene died as a result of blunt force trauma injuries.

Police say the drivers of the other two involved vehicles were wearing seatbelts, as was a passenger in the Dodge Avenger. A passenger in the Dodge RAM was not wearing a seatbelt.

According to police, the driver of the Dodge RAM, identified as 37-year-old Kenneth R. Yovich, of Beaver, suffered injuries of unknown severity and was transported to Indiana Regional Medical Center by Citizens Ambulance.

Yovich’s passenger, identified as 49-year-old James D. Miller, of Rochester, Pa., was not injured.

The driver of the Dodge Avenger, identified as a 16-year-old female from Dixonville, and her passenger, identified as a 15-year-old female from Dixonville, were also not injured.

The three vehicles were towed from the scene by Mike’s Auto and Sabo’s Garage.
