UPDATE: Two Flown From Scene of I-80 Crash

BROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) –  DuBois-based State Police have released additional details surrounding a three-vehicle crash that closed Interstate 80 eastbound in Jefferson County for nearly five hours.

Around 8:25 a.m. on Friday, a tractor-trailer driven by Timothy Werts, 62, of Hartstown, Pa., was disabled on Interstate 80 at mile marker 80.2.

Sumett Gill, 25, of Palmer, Pa., was driving a passenger vehicle in the right lane when he was forced to come to an abrupt stop due to the tractor trailer partially blocking the roadway.

Gill attempted to merge into the left lane and collided with another passenger vehicle driven by Harold Allison III,, 47, of Canto, Oh.

Allison and a passenger, who was not identified, were taken from the scene by helicopter to an undisclosed hospital.

The severity of their injuries is not known at this time.

The investigation continues.

According to Jefferson County 911, Interstate 80 reopened shortly before 2 p.m.

The section of Interstate 80 was closed for nearly five hours while Pa. State Police worked to reconstruct the accident scene.

As a result of the crash, major backups were reported on area roadways, including U.S. Route 322, State Route 36, and Statue Route 28.

Jefferson County 911 reported that LifeFlight and Stat MedEvac helicopters were dispatched as well as Jefferson County EMS, and volunteer fire departments from Brookville, Pinecreek and Corsica.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Brookville Police, Reynoldsville Police, and PSP-Punxsutawney were also on the scene.

Also, Interstate 80 westbound was closed around 6:00 a.m. Friday following a multi-vehicle accident between Exit 78 (SR 36 Brookville/Sigel) and the onramp from Route 949 at Exit 73 (Corsica).

The crash occurred near mile marker 72.8 in Union Township, Jefferson County. The roadway has since reopened.
