Jacqueline M. Hinks

HinksJacqueline M. Hinks, 55 of Punxsutawney passed away peacefully at home on Thursday morning May 26, 2016 with her loving life-long partner of over thirty two years, “Coach” John F. Smith by her side following a courageous battle with cancer.

Jackie was born in Niagara Falls, N.Y. on April 20, 1961, a daughter of the late John E. Hinks and Joann (Hinks) Phelps. Her mother, Joann survives and resides in Curwensville.

Jackie had a tremendous vivacious personality enjoying life to the absolute fullest. Her bubbly smile and sparkling demeanor overflowed and were infectious to everyone she encountered.

Jackie possessed a sense of enthusiasm for travel and adventure exploring new places with her life-long companion, John F. Smith (former Punxsy High School coach and teacher) as often as time permitted. Some of their favorite getaway spots included Florida, Las Vegas, New Orleans, San Francisco, Niagara Falls, Cape Cod and Ocean City Maryland and virtually every spot in between. They loved to travel together and were each other’s best traveling companions. Jackie and John were inseparable. He was dedicated to athletics, and she was dedicated to him.

Jackie was previously employed by Brody’s of Clearfield, was a cosmetic buyer and delighted in women’s fashion, jewelry and collecting handbags. She had also worked for J.C.A.R.C. where she loved to take individuals on trips and outings.

She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Italian Sons and Daughters of America and the Walston Club.

Besides her zeal for fashion, she loved her “little” herb garden and her assortment of plants. Jackie also enjoyed spending time in the kitchen and was quite a gourmet cook.

In addition to traveling and tending to her little herb garden, Jackie cherished spending time with her best friend and life-long partner John. The two were a match made in heaven and deeply loved each other and the time they spent together.

Jackie is survived by her life-long partner, John F. Smith; her mother, Joann (Hinks) Phelps; and two brothers, John and Fred Hinks, both of Hyde, Pa.

She was preceded in death by her father, John E. Hinks.

Family and friends will be received at the Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc of Punxsutawney on Sunday, May 29, 2016 from 12-4 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at the funeral home immediately following visitation at 4 p.m. and officiated by Pastor Doug Wolf.

Memorial donations may be made in Jackie’s memory to J.C.A.R.C, c/o Marie Elkin, PO Box 232, Delancey, Pa. 15733.

Interment will be private at the Adrian-Anita Catholic Cemetery.
