Jay D. Dobson

Jay DobsonJay D. Dobson, 85, Punxsutawney, died Friday, May 13, 2016, at his home.

He was born September 7, 1930, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Zelda (Dinger) and N. Perry Dobson.

On June 9, 1952, he married Carolyn Ann “Mikey” Dilts, who preceded him in death on March 3, 1999.

Mr. Dobson served in the United States Army during the Korean War Era from 1952 to 1954.

He was a member and deacon of the Valier United Methodist Church.

Mr. Dobson worked as a Union Electrician for IBEW Local 5 for forty-two years and retired in 1991.

He was a member of the John W. Jenks Lodge 534, the Jaffa Shrine, and a Sargent of Arms for the original Shifter Car Club.

He is survived by three children, Randy Dobson and wife Jody of Punxsutawney, Connie Miller and husband Victor of Timblin, and Kathy Slagle of Pensacola, FL; five grandchildren, Veronica Trunzo and husband Paul, Christopher Miller and wife Sherri, Jenna Dobson, Malisa Dobson, Malory Mee and Husband Ryan, Jessica McCracken and husband Luke, and Jennifer Slagle; two great grandchildren, Kylee McCracken and Ivy Mason; and a brother Lynn Dobson and wife JoAnn of Worthville.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister Lois Scott.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday, May 15, 2016, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney. A Masonic Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, 2016.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, May 16, 2016, at the funeral home with Pastor Linda B. Chambers officiating. The Jefferson County Veterans Honor Guard will conduct a Military Funeral Honors Ceremony immediately following the funeral service at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Valier Cemetery.
