Jean D. Lorenzo

OI371844702_Lorenzophoto[1]Jean D. Lorenzo age 94 of Evergreen Street in Brockway, PA; died on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at Penn Highlands DuBois.

Born on July 14, 1920 in Norfolk, Virginia she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Grace England Wood. She was married to Dr. Nicholas Lorenzo and he died in 1987.

Jean was a 1941 graduate of Georgetown University School of Nursing and had worked as a registered nurse. Through the years she was employed at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh and ultimately ended up working with her husband at his Brockway office.

Jean was a member at St. Tobias Church in Brockway where she served as an organist for 50 years. She also served as the church’s Junior Choir director and as a choir member for many years.

Jean served on the board of the St. Vincent DePaul Society and was a Rosary Society member. She was an avid golfer, bridge player, world traveler and Notre Dame football fan.

She is survived by a son: Nicholas Lorenzo of Punxsutawney, PA; and a grandson Matthew C. Lorenzo of San Jose, CA. She is also preceded in death by a sister Evelyn Wood and a grandson Nicholas Michael Lorenzo.

Calling hours will be on Monday, June 22, 2015 from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. at the Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home Inc. in Brockway. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 23 at 9:30 A.M. at St. Tobias Church with Msgr. Charles Kaza presiding. Burial will follow in St. Tobias Cemetery.

A Vigil Service will be held Monday evening at 8:45 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to St. Tobias Church 1135 Hewitt Street Brockway, Pa. 15824 or the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
