Jean I. Bailey

3286243[1]Jean I. Bailey, 87, of Hughesville, died Monday, August 24, 2015 at Wolf Run Village.

Born April 18, 1928 in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Alfred E. and Ruth (Schenck) Irwin. Jean married William Larue Bailey on June 13, 1953. She was predeceased by William on March 17, 1984.

Jean was graduate of Mt. Lebanon School District and received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Waynesburg College. Jean was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was employed as a salesperson at Deisroth’s, the Bon-Ton, and also worked at Montgomery’s Pharmacy. She was an active and faithful member of Christ United Methodist Church, Hughesville. She and her whole family much appreciated the church members who lovingly gave her rides to church each Sunday in her later years. She was active in the community including Walk-a-Thons for the cancer society, and enjoyed volunteering at Community and Church fund raisers. Most of all, Jean loved spending time with friends and family. She also loved walking, flower gardening, arranging flowers, and dogs. With her sense of humor, she loved teasing people. She loved to play cards, especially Crazy Eights with her friends at Wolf Run Village.

She is survived by two sons, William R. (Debbie) Bailey of Brookville, and David I. (Lori) Bailey of Sparta, NJ; a brother, Robert (Sally) Irwin of Sarasota, FL; four grandchildren, Brett (Ashley) Bailey of Steelville, MO, Shawn (Kristi) Bailey of Colorado Springs, CO, Courtney Bailey (fiance Erik Squillante) of Sparta, NJ, and Gavin Bailey of Sparta, NJ; and five great-grandchildren, Molly and Will Bailey, of MO, Cameron, Logan, and Brennan Bailey of CO.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 27, at Christ United Methodist Church, 148 S. Main Street, Hughesville, with Pastor Jane O’Borski officiating. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery. Friends may call from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday, August 27, at the church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville.
