Jefferson County Commissioners Recognize Volunteers, Older Americans

Jefferson County National Volunteer WeekBROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) — The Jefferson County Commissioners proclaimed the week of April 23-29 as “National Volunteer Week” and May as “Older Americans Month” at Tuesday’s meeting.

Megan Uplinger, the Executive Director of the county Area Agency on Aging, spoke about the importance of both.

“We’re happy to recognize the citizens that have given so much of their time to make the county a better place to live,” Uplinger said. “The volunteer services are needed more than ever to tackle the problems and facing the concerns there are in the county.”

Uplinger talked about the four senior centers that are in Jefferson County, including Brookville, Punxsutawney, Reynoldsville, and Brockway.

“They are each open five hours a day Monday through Friday, they serve lunch, they deliver meals, they help people with their tax returns.

Uplinger said there are some events being planned in May to recognize volunteers. Additional details will be released at a later date.
