Jefferson County Will See No Tax Increase

BROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) — The Jefferson County Commissioners will dip into their fund balance to align the proposed 2018 budget.

The commissioners presented the preliminary budget at Tuesday’s meeting, and it showed a deficit of $422,999.00 in the general fund.

“We will use money out of the fund balance to balance the budget,” Commissioner Jack Matson said. “The tax mills will remain at 12.”

“We asked each department to run as efficiently as possible, to look at their spending from five years ago and two years ago.”

“Some departments have seen decreases in what they needed, such as juvenile probation and the district judge’s office in Brookville, while others, such as the sheriff’s department, have been up 15 percent from two years ago, so we decreased it,” Matson said.

The projected general fund revenues are $13,604,105.00 with expenditures at $14,027,104.00.

The commissioners voted to advertise the budget for 20 days with adoption expected at the Tuesday, December 19 meeting.
