Brookville Man Accused of Theft from Vehicle in Oliver Twp. Waives Preliminary Hearing

OLIVER TWP., Pa. (EYT) – A Brookville man who allegedly stole cash, cigarettes, and other items from cars parked in Oliver Township last year recently waived his preliminary hearing.

Court documents indicate the following charges against 19-year-old Cody James Verostic of Punxsutawney were waived for court on Thursday, October 4:

  • Theft By Unlaw Taking-Movable Property, Misdemeanor 2 (five counts)
  • Criminal Conspiracy Aiding – Theft By Unlawful Taking, Misdemeanor 2
  • Receiving Stolen Property, Misdemeanor 2 (five counts)
  • Criminal Conspiracy Aiding – Receiving Stolen Property, Misdemeanor 2
  • Theft From A Motor Vehicle, Misdemeanor 2 (five counts)
  • Criminal Conspiracy Aiding – Theft From A Motor Vehicle, Misdemeanor 2

The charges have been transferred to the Jefferson County Court of Common Pleas.

Verostic remains free on $5,000.00 unsecured bail.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, on August 7, 2017, Trooper Suprano, of the Punxsutawney-based State Police, was assigned to investigate a series of thefts from motor vehicles that occurred at the victims’ residence along Coolspring Road and Belshazzar Road in Oliver Township, Jefferson County.

The complaint states that Cody James Verostic allegedly confessed to planning, aiding, and committing the crimes along with two juveniles. Verostic referred to the thefts from motor vehicles as “car shopping” and admitted to stealing from cars along Coolspring Road and Belshazzar Road, taking items including U.S. currency, cigarettes, and a pink Taser.

The complaint notes the thefts amounted to approximately $180.00 in stolen items.

Charges were filed in Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock’s office on August 29, 2018.
