PINE CREEK TWP., Pa. (EYT) – An inmate at the Jefferson County Jail who allegedly stole a truck and tools while on work release and attempted to flee the state waived his preliminary hearing yesterday.
Court documents indicate the following charges against 45-year-old Daniel Martin Ripley were waived for court on Tuesday, January 8, 2019:
- Theft By Unlawful Taking-Movable Property, Felony 2 (two counts)
- Receiving Stolen Property, Felony 2 (two counts)
- Escape, Misdemeanor 2
The charges have been transferred to the Jefferson County Court of Common Pleas.
Ripley remains lodged in the Jefferson County Jail pending $50,000.00 monetary bail.
Details of the case:
According to a criminal complaint, on August 11, 2018, Trooper Moore, of the Punxsutawney-based State Police, was assigned to investigate a reported theft.
Around 9:13 a.m., Trooper Moore arrived at the scene and was informed that Daniel Martin Ripley, a Jefferson County Jail inmate on work release, had stolen a 1998 Chevrolet Silverado and a large amount of tools (valued at $6,250.00) from Humphrey Charcoal.
According to the complaint, Ripley was observed on camera loading and then leaving in the truck from Humphrey Charcoal around 12:36 a.m.
The complaint notes that Ripley was not authorized to use the vehicle and was supposed to return to Jefferson County Jail at 7:00 a.m.
While investigating at the scene, the victim was notified by Ashland County, Ohio Deputy Neff that Ripley was in custody and being held at the Ashland County Jail. Deputy Neff related that the truck was also secured in the Ashland County Sheriff’s impound lot.
Ripley was arraigned at 1:50 p.m. on Wednesday, November 7, in Magisterial District Judge Gregory M. Bazylak’s office.
He remains lodged in the Jefferson County Jail.
