Jefferson County Man Accused of Repeatedly Striking Victim in Face While She Was Driving

BIG RUN BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – A Punxsutawney man is facing assault and related charges after a recent domestic incident where he allegedly struck a woman repeatedly while she was driving.

Court documents indicate the Punxsutawney-based State Police filed criminal charges against 30-year-old John William Macormac, of Punxsutawney.

According to a criminal complaint, around 3:28 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, Trooper Malloy and other troopers from the Punxsutawney State Police were dispatched to a residence on Pennsylvania Avenue in Big Run Borough for a report of a domestic assault.

Trooper Malloy spoke to the victim at the scene.

According to the complaint, the victim reported that John William Macormac struck her several times in the face while driving to the residence. She said Macormac then broke her driver’s side window and crashed the windshield on the passenger side of the vehicle.

The complaint notes the victim had dried blood on her lips and her right eye was bloodshot and swollen.

Macormac was located at the scene.

He was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Douglas Robert Chambers at 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, on the following charges:

– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
– Harassment – Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary
– Criminal Mischief-Damage Property, Summary

He remains free on $12,000.00 unsecured bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, with Magisterial District Judge David B. Inzana presiding.
